Dunleavy
History

Anne Love was the daughter of Samuel and Nancy Anne Chestnut Love and was baptized April 19, 1838 in Kilcar by the Reverend James Crawford.  She and Anthony were both members of the Church of Ireland (protestant).  Anthony was the son of George and Margaret Dunleavy and worked as a policeman with the Royal Irish Constabulary.
Anthony died of a heart attack and was buried on July 31, 1866 with the service performed by Rev. Robert Labatt.  Anne and Anthony's daughter, Margaret Francis Dunleavy, was born a few months later, on January 3, 1867 in Kilcar, and baptized on February 17, 1867 in Kilcar by Rev. Labatt.
Anne, or "Annie" as she is frequently shown in public records, and Margaret Fannie (who is listed as "Maggie," "Fannie," "Margaret Frances," or "Margaret F." in public records) emigrated to the United States in 1884 (according to Margaret in the information she provided to the government in the 1920 U.S. Census).
According to the 1885 Iowa Census, Annie Dunlavy 46, and Maggie Dunlavy 18, were living with Annie's brother, James Hamilton Love, his wife, Susan, and son, James Henry, at the corner of Harrison and Washington Sts. in Albia, Iowa.
The 1900 U.S. Census asked for each respondent's birth month and year, marital status, number of children, and number of children living as of the date of the census.  The record shows Annie Dunleavy: born 2/1838, widowed, with 1 of 1 children living, and Fannie M. Dunleavy born 1/1867, single, 0 children, and working as a teacher.  The two were no longer living with James Hamilton Love, as their address was on South Main St. in Albia, Iowa.
Annie and Margaret Frances left Iowa sometime between the 1900 U.S. Census and 1905, as they are not listed in the 1905 Iowa State Census.  Margaret Frances stated in the 1930 U.S. Census that she married for the first time at age 40, about 1907.  Family history indicates she married Richard McElroy, but no date or location has been found.  By 1910, Annie Dunleavy was 72 and living in Hayward, California (east end of the San Franciso Bay) sharing a rented apartment with her 84 year old sister, Frances Walker Love Crawford.  The 1910 U.S. Census indicates Annie was 70 y/o, had given birth to 1 child, but 0 children were living, was living on her own income, could read and write English and immigrated to the U.S. in 1886.  This location was also near the home of her older brother, Richard Love and family.  No records for all possible variations of the names Margaret Frances Dunleavy McElroy or Richard McElroy have been found in the 1910 U.S. Census.
The 1918 Directory for Alameda County, California shows Annie Dunleavy still living with sister Frances W. Crawford in a rental apartment and describes both as "retired" and "republicans."  Anne Love Dunleavy died in Hayward, Alameda County, California on June 5, 1918 and is reportedly buried at Woodlawn Masonic Cemetery (now Woodlawn Memorial Park) across San Francisco Bay, in Colma, California.
The 1920 USC indicates Margaret Frances Dunleavy McElroy was still living with her aunt, Frances Love Crawford in her Hayward, California apartment.  The record lists Margaret as 52 years old, married, not employed and her year of immigration was 1884.  Richard McElroy is shown in the 1920 USC for Los Angeles, California living in a boarding house at 615 Kohler Street and working as a painter in a cafeteria. By 1930, Margaret F. McElroy had moved almost 300 miles south, to Bakersfield, California.  The U.S. Census for that year lists her as 62 years old, married, her first marriage was at age 40, and she was working as a housekeeper for John and Jane Stanberry (café owner).
