According to the 1870 U.S. Census, Thomas Roberson Devitt, wife Catharine, daughter, Maggie, sons John James, and Thomas, were living in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana, and Thomas was working as a "cooper" (a cask and barrel maker).
Catharine died in 1888, son Thomas died in 1889 and by 1900, Thomas was living with son John James and his wife, Minerva, on their farm in Vernon Township, Hancock County, Indiana, where Thomas Roberson Devitt died in 1911.
Margaret (Maggie) Devitt was born April 9, 1857 in New York State. She married Alfred Henry Miller November 7, 1883 in Richmond, Indiana. The couple had no children. The 1920 U.S. census shows Maggie, at age 62, living with her aunt, Catherine Ireton, and Catherine's son (Maggie's cousin), James Henry Ireton, in Vernon Township, Hancock County, Indiana. Maggie died February 6, 1938.
John James Devitt was born September 21, 1859 in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana. He married Minnie Ida Bell Hunt on July 3, 1884 in Wayne County, Indiana.
Clarence A. Devitt married E. Bernice Hall June 21, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The couple had 2 children, James A. Devitt, and Carolyn S. Devitt Bunting. Clarence died April 2, 1987 in Indianapolis. Bernice Hall Devitt died March 9, 2005 at age 100 in Indianapolis. Clarence and Bernice are pictured to the left.

The 1870 U.S. Census shows Kate and Robert living in Richmond, Indiana where Robert worked, like Kate's brother, Thomas Roberson Devitt, as a "cooper."

John's and Minnie's daughter, Edna May Devitt, (pictured to the left) was born June 11, 1885 in Richmond, Indiana. She married Abraham Cox April 13, 1903 in Richmond and they became the parents of 5 children. She died June 14, 1963 in Richmond, Indiana.
John James Devitt and Minnie Ida Bell were divorced in 1886 (Minnie Ida Bell eventually married 4 other gentlemen). John James married Minerva Magruder on December 17, 1899 in Wayne County, Indiana. John and Minerva had 2 children, Mabel Catherine Devitt, born June 17, 1901 and died April 12, 1919 in Vernon Twp., Hancock County, Indiana, and Clarence Alexander Devitt, born March 17, 1903.
