Mary Emma Love
b. March 21, 1860
in Glasgow, Jefferson Co., Iowa
d. November 21, 1888
in Holdrege, Phelps Co., Nebraska
Mary Emma Love was probably known as Emma by family and friends, since the 1880 U.S. Census records refer to her as Emma, as does her grave stone in Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, NE.
Emma was first married to George William Hornbeck on Tuesday, December 21, 1880 in Albia, Iowa.  George William or "Billy" Hornbeck was born in August 1856 in Winterset, Madison Co., Iowa to James and Emily Hornbeck.
Note: the above photo of Mary Emma Love Burnett was taken in Plattsmouth, Nebraska
Carrie Burnett married boarder, Gustav Norberg, in 1885. Caroline Wilkie Burnett died in 1893.
By 1900, the John A. Burnetts were living in Denver, Colorado where John worked as a broker/money lender.  He was still employed in that capacity in the 1910 and 1920 US Census records, residing at 1368 High Street, Denver. The 1900, and 1910 US Census records for Denver also showed Paul Harvey Burnett living with John and Sophia, listed as "son" and his father was listed as having been born in New York, where John Burnett was born, but as of the 1920 US Census, Paul was listed as "step son" and his father's birth location as "Missouri."
Paul Burnett became a well respected veterinarian, and served in the "Vet Corps" in World War I.  At age 55 and retired, Paul appears in the 1940 US Census living at 1415 North Beverly Drive in Los Angeles, California. He died December 21, 1940 in Los Angeles.
John Augustus Burnett died January 25, 1925 in Denver. Sophia Wilson Campbell Burnett lived in a "Hotel Apartment" according to the 1930 US Census and died in Denver in 1932. John and Sophia are buried at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver.
Below: documentation of the marriage of Mary Emma Love and George William Hornbeck as listed in official State of Iowa records.
John A. Burnett remarried on October 5, 1895 in Denver, CO to Sophia W. Campbell. Sophia L. Wilson was born March 8, 1861 in Edina, MO and married Dr. Taylor Armington Campbell June 1, 1882 in Edina, MO. Their son, Paul Harvey Campbell was born October 13, 1885 in Grainfield, Kansas.

The 1885 Iowa State Census shows George as a widower and son, Galen, living with his parents, James and Emily Hornbeck, his sister, Belle D. Coffin, her husband, William H. Coffin, and their son, Clyde O. Coffin, in Polk Co., Iowa. George W. Hornbeck died June 4, 1940 in Ellensburg, Kittitas County, Washington.
Emma and George must have parted ways soon after their marriage since George was remarried by 1884 and fathered a son, Galen Hornbeck, on October 29, 1884 in Des Moines, Iowa. Galen Hornbeck's Birth Certificate and California Death Index record (date of death May 5, 1949) both indicate his mother's surname was "Brown."
Although Emma listed her age as "21" on her marriage record, she was actually "20" at the time and would not turn 21 until March 21, 1881. Her birthdate of March 21, 1860 is documented through family history, US Census records (the July 1860 census gives Mary Emma Love's age as less than 6 months; the April 12, 1870 census indicates her age was 10 years and her grave stone gives her age at death on November 21, 1888 as 28 years, and 7 months which exactly coincides with her birthdate of March 21, 1860. See photo of grave stone below.
Mary Emma Love Burnett died November 21, 1888 in Holdrege, Nebraska, probably in childbirth.  Records exist indicating that male twins were born to Emma and John Burnett in November 1888 and died that same month.  She is buried in the family plot in Holdrege with Caleb and Caroline Burnett.
John Augustus Burnett was born January 3, 1859 in Galway, Saratoga Co., NY, the son of Caleb Humphrey Burnett and Caroline Wilkie.  According to the 1885 Nebraska State Census for Holdrege, Phelps County, Nebraska, Caleb Burnett worked as a "mill agent," John was an implement dealer and his younger sister, Carrie, was a school teacher.  Also boarding with the family was Jessie Simpson, school teacher, Gust Norberg, attorney, and Anna Anderson, servant.
Emma married John Augustus Burnett on September 28, 1886 in Albia, Monroe Co., Iowa.
