Sarah Jane Love (known as "Jennie" by family and friends) was born February 9, 1849 in Aurelius, Cuyoga County, New York to James Hamilton and Susan Love. The family moved to Albia, Monroe County, Iowa in 1862 where she met Marquis Tarquinias Arnold (known as Mark). Jennie and Mark were married June 6, 1867 in Monroe County, Iowa.
The Arnolds took up housekeeping after their marriage in Lagrange, Lucas County, Iowa, where their first two children, Estella June
and Elsie Martha, were born. By the birth of their third child, James Willis, in 1872, the family had moved to Melrose, Monroe County, Iowa, where Mark was a dry goods merchant. Three more daughters were born to the couple while living in Melrose, Ella Stewart, Blanche, and Edna Pearl. Daughter Blanche died there at age 1 1/2, in 1879.
According to Ella Stewart Arnold's grand-daughter, Jennie Love Arnold named her 3rd daughter after her close friend, Miss Ella Stewart, of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, one of the seven Iowa Wesleyan College sorority sisters who founded the womens' philanthropic educational organization known as the P.E.O.which is now headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa.
The family moved to Burlington, Coffey County, Kansas in 1887 where Mark worked as a "money broker." Their son, Donald Jarboe Arnold, was born in Burlington in 1890.

Mark and Jennie's first son, James Willis, was killed in an accident while working for the railroad on February 15, 1899 in Fairfield, Nebraska.

Sarah Jane Love Arnold, "Jennie," died December 16, 1916 while visiting family and friends in Burlington, Kansas. She was buried in Graceland Cemetery in Burlington.
Marquis Tarquinias Arnold died April 19, 1923 in Los Angeles, California and was buried beside his wife in Burlington, KS.
The Arnolds moved to California in 1909 and, according to the 1910 U.S. Census, the Arnolds, and Jennie's 84 year-old mother, Susan Devitt Love, were living in El Monte, California.
