Passenger list from the Caroline Tucker showing Samuel, his sister, Ellen and their relative, Ellen Buchanan as passengers (note the manifest is dated May 2, 1855):
The next two documents show that Samuel Love and his brother, William Dare Love,  operated dry goods businesses in New York City together. The first is an IRS record indicating a balance was owed for the 1865 tax year.
The document to the left is the cover of the City Directory for New York City as of May 1868. Below are the listings from the directory for Louisa E. Love (the wife of Samuel Love) who was apparently working out of the couple's home. Louisa Elvira Flue Love was born in Canada about 1846 and died in New York City November 20, 1873, the listings for
William D. and Samuel Love appear to indicate the two were in business together at 201 and 361 6th Avenue while William D. also lived at the 201 6th Avenue location.

Samuel Love emigrated to the United States in 1854, by way of Liverpool, England.  The following is a copy of the original letter Samuel sent to his brother William (already residing in New York) on the eve of his departure:
As noted in his letter, Samuel was accompanied by his sister, Ellen, and their relative, Elleanor Buchanan.

According to the 1860 U.S. Census, Samuel was living in New York City with his brothers, William, Richard, and John, and his sister Ellen.

William, Samuel, and John listed their occupations as "clerk" while Richard was a machinist.  The combined value of the siblings' personal estates was listed at $550.

Samuel married Louisa Elvira Flue in Manhattan sometime before 1869.  Louisa was born in about 1846 in Canada.  According to 1870 U.S. Census records, Samuel was employed in the worsted goods trade and eventually became an importer of fine Irish linens, lace and fancy cloth for New York City's "carriage trade."

Louisa E. Love died November 20, 1873 in New York, most likely in childbirth as interment records from Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York indicate a son born to Samuel and Louisa E. Love, who died at birth, is buried there. No further information is currently known about Louisa or the circumstances of her life.  Below left: notice of Louisa E. Love's death in the November 22, 1873 New York Times.
